Choosing a padlock - the options ?
Shackle size: Choose a padlock with either a short or long shackle. A long shckle padlock is easier to attack however it fits easier through chains and staples.

Key or Combo: Choose either a combination padlock or a padlock that accepts a key. Combination padlocks are usefull where many tenants need to acces a communial door, but when a tenant leaves the combination is changed by the landlord and the code is recirculated - Application: Side entry gates.

Attack/Cutting Resistance: Padlocks are normally rated from 1 to 15, where 15 is the hardest padlock to cut, pick or generally attack open. You must analyse the item(s) you are trying to protect, the budget you can afford, and then select the quality of padlock to suit.
